Public Safety

The Society’s aim is always to entertain, inform, educate, and give pleasure to the public.

Society members are aware of the need to give of their best at all times, and will take the greatest care that no injury from knives, weapons or any other equipment used by the society, can befall the public. If it is considered appropriate, we may invite individual members of the public to take a closer look at our equipment, but only under close supervision, and where it is safe to do so.

We will take every care to protect the health, safety, and welfare of everyone; child and adult. We are aware and understand that many children nowadays have no opportunity to learn how to handle sharp instruments such as knives, etc. But by parental training and first hand experience, we will actively try to raise children's awareness of the inherent dangers of such things, by explaining how to handle them safely, and illustrating possible dangers by using anecdotes and stories.

Any unpleasant incidents or suspicions, however minor, will be reported at once to the appropriate staff on site.

The society has a comprehensive Health & Safely policy, including Public Liability with a limit of indemnity of £5million.

In the event of an accident:

  • A comprehensive first aid kit is available to group members who have a current First Aid certificate, and an accident record will be kept.
  • In the event of any member of the public becoming injured, whether or not it is through our negligence, they should be taken to a proper First Aid centre, and the appropriate site staff will be fully informed of the circumstances.
  • Should a serious accident occur, remember to ask (insist) any witnesses to leave their full contact details, but to leave the vicinity unless they can offer qualified medical assistance or other necessary help.
  • At no time should anyone move anybody who may have a back or neck injury.
  • An injured person should be kept warm, and group members should know how to lay a person in the recovery position. Do not offer a seriously injured person anything to eat or drink!
Our full policy concerning the protection of children and vulnerable adults is on a separate document.
